Madison Keys was defeated in the second round of the WTA 500 Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose, California. The
American, who is No 3 in the scheme, lost from Chinese Shuai Zhang with 2-0 (7:5, 7:6) in the second round of the prestigious tournament.
Despite the advantage in the first serve point wins and aces, Madison Keys made serious mistakes and many unforced errors, which caused the loss.
The match started with the exchange of service games for each of the players and, but in the fifth game, Shuai Zhang made a break as service of Madison Keys. The Chinese player hardly defended the break, and showed some problems in her return. However, the match was running with a slight advantage for Shuai Zhang, until the 10th game, when Madison Keys returned the break. And when everyone expected the tiebreak to come, she received another break and the Chinese won the first set with 7:5.
The second set started strongly for Madison Keys, who took advantage of 3:0 and kept it to 4:2. However, in the seventh game of the set, she was broken and the Chinese player succeeded to make a draw 5:5. Both players exchange a break to make the result 6:6 and reached a tiebreak, which was won by Shuai Zhang by 7:5.
In the quarter-finals, Chinese Shuai Zhang will face Croatian player Ana Konjuh.
