Madison Keys eliminated Venus Williams at the start of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open

The 13th-seeded American tennis player Madison Keys started successfully her participation at the WTA 1000 Canadian Open defeating her compatriot and legend Venus Williams by 2-0 (6:2, 7:5) in 111 minutes of play.

Madison Keys earned the success with 5 aces, made just 2 double faults and recoded 4 breaks, while her opponent, made six double faults and reached just one break out of four possible break points.

In the next round, Madison Keys will face Jasmine Paolini (Italy), who eliminated Donna Vekic (Croatia) after 2-0 (7:6, 6:2).

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics champion and 12th-seeded Belinda Bencic (Switzerland) also qualified for the second round of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open, or Rogers Cup, after defeating Lucia Bronzetti (Italy) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3).

Jennifer Brady (USA) eliminated Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia), bringing one of the surprises of the first round, after 2-1 (7:6, 0:6, 7:6) in a match that lasted 2:33 hours. In the second round she will face the 3rd-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan).

Katie Boulter (Greak Britain) defeated Rebecca Marino (Canada) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:1) and will face the 6th-seeded Cori Coco Gauff (USA) in the next round.
