Madison Keys defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia to qualify for the Round of 16 at the WTA 1000 China Open

Madison Keys (USA) advanced to the Round of 16 at the WTA 1000 China Open after defeating the 13th-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3) in 1:27 hours of play.

The American tennis player made three aces against only one for her Brazilian opponent, who also recorded five double faults and cored only 55% from her first serve. On the other hand, Madison Keys had 71% of the first serve and won 60% of her first serve points.

The match started with an early break for Beatriz Haddad Maia, who took a lead by 2:0 in the beginning of the first set, giving only 2 points to her opponent in the first two games. However, Madison Keys improved her serve and succeeded to win the next game and after than even equalized after returned the break. Beatriz Haddad Maia won the 6th game on her serve, but her opponent was unstoppable and won the next three games in a row and closed the set at 6:3.

The second set started strongly for Madison Keys, who broke twice and took a lead of 3:0. Beatriz Haddad Maia returned the breaks and succeeded to equalize to 3:3, but her American opponent made another strong series and won three games in a row, closing the set at 6:3 again.

In the next round, the 18th-seeded Madison Keys (USA) will face Aryna Sabalenka (belarus), who eliminated Ashlyn Krueger (USA0 by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2).

In the other matches of the day, Anna Kalinskaya (Russia) qualified for the Round of 16 of the WTA 1000 China Open after her opponent Peyton Stearns (USA) retired in the third set at 1-1 (3:6, 6:3, 3:1). The formed world’s number one and four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka (Japan) did not face any problems against Katie Volynets (USA) and achieved a straight-set victory of 2-0 (6:3, 6:2).
