Lulu Sun eliminated Emma Raducanu to advance to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon

New Zealand tennis talent Lulu Sun qualified for the quarter-finals of Wimbledon for the first time after prevailing over Emma Raducanu (Great Britain) by 2-1 (6:2, 5:7, 6:2) in two hours and 45 minutes of play.

The 23-year-old Lulu Sun, who is ranked 123rd in the world but will make a big leap after the tournament, was born in New Zealand to a Croatian father and a Chinese mother and also holds Swiss citizenship having lived in the country since the age of five.

Lulu Sun won the first set against Emma Raducanu by 6:2 after making three breaks to just one for the Briton. In the second set, the British tennis player gave a much bigger fightback, making an important break at 6:5 and equalizing the score.

The decisive set began with a break by the New Zealander, who led by 2:0, and then broke Emma Raducanu’s serve again for 5:2 and closed the match on her own serve.

“It was a great experience for me to play for the first time on center court. I had to give everything to win. She fought for every ball. I’ve watched Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova. I haven’t watched them live, but I’m trying to take the best of the best”, said an excited Lulu Sun after the match

In the quarter-finals, she will face Donna Vekic (Croatia).
