Luiza Gega won the first gold medal for Albania at the European Athletics Championships in the 3,000m steeplechase.
The Albanian athlete dominates 3,000m steeplechase running for women at the European Athletics Championships in Munich (Germany) and came to a definite win for 9:11.31 minutes, which is the record of the championships.
The German Lea Meyer recorded a personal record of 9:15.35 for silver in the absence of two-time champion Gesa Felicitas Krause (Germany).
The British athlete Elizabeth Bird won bronze by 9:23.18 minutes.
Luiza Gega is an Albanian athlete specializing in middle-distance running. She competed at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, in the Women’s 3,000m steeplechase.
She is the Albanian record holder in the 800m, 1,500m, 3,000m, 5,000m, 10,000m, 10km, 20km, half-Marathon and marathon distances as well as the 2,000m and 3,000m steeplechase. She competed at the 2019 World Athletics Championships, finishing 9th. Among the biggest achievements are also the gold medals from the Mediterranean Games in 2022 Oran and 2018 Tarragona at the 3,000m steeplechase.
