French biathlete Lou Jeanmonnot overtook Lisa Vittozzi (Italy) in the final sprint to win the 10km pursuit of the Biathlon World Cup at the American Winter Center Soldier Hollow. Julia Simon finished in third place and remained first in the classification for the small crystal globe in the discipline.
Lou Jeanmonnot and Lisa Vittozzi each missed a target and exited the final shootout at the same time, riding side-by-side to the finish, which the French biathlete won by four-tenths of a second.
It was the career third victory for Lou Jeanmonnot, who won the sprint and pursuit at the season opener in Sweden in early December.
“I’m happy to be first again. It was a very good feeling to beat Lisa”, said Lou Jeanmonnot.
Julia Simon was 1:01.0 min behind in third place with two penalty laps, but extended his lead in the pursuit standings to 26 points. Lisa Vittozzi now heads into second place ahead of next week’s World Cup finals in Canmore (Canada), five points ahead of Lou Jeanmonnot.
World Cup overall leader Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold (Norway) finished 11th today and has 964 points before the final three races. She leads with 73 ahead of Lisa Vittozzi. Justine Braisaz-Bouchet (France) is third behind with 881 points.
