London 2012 Olympics high jump champion Anna Chicherova retires

Anna Chicherova, the Olympic high jump champion from London 2012, made the final decision to end her competitive career.

“That’s it, I no longer have any competitive plans. Now I will attend competitions only as a spectator”, said the 40-year-old Russian high jumping athlete Anna Chicherova.

The last time the athlete competed was at the end of February last year, when she won the winter championship of Russia with a result of 1.94m. Anna Chicherova missed the 2022 summer season due to a knee injury.

“I still haven’t decided exactly what I’m going to do in the future, but it’s definitely something related to athletics”, added she.

Anna Chicherova is a Russian high jumper. She was the gold medalist at the 2012 London Olympics and originally was awarded a bronze medal in the event at the 2008 Summer Olympics. She was also runner-up at the World Championships in 2007 and 2013, as well as the bronze medalist in 2015. Anna Chicherova is the Russian record holder with a result of 2.07m since 2011. In the same year, she became the world champion at the championship in the Republic of Korea. At the beginning of 2019, she jumped 2.01m indoors twice, three days apart. At age 36, those jumps both equalled the Masters W35 World Record, though because they were indoors, they will not be recognized as the record.
