Lindsey Jacobellis, who was meters from her debut gold medal in the women’s snowboard cross race at the Olympics in Torino 2006, finally overcame her Olympic nightmares and won it.
The American, one of the biggest stars in the sport with a total of six world titles, had only one Olympic silver medal from Torino 2006. In Italy, she led convincingly in the final, but decided to overlook the easy and harmless trick of the final jump, but confused the landing and fell. This allowed the Swiss Tanja Frieden to triumph, and for Lindsey Jacobellis was the silver medal.
There were no such performances in Beijing today and she triumphed uncompromisingly in the final series, although at one point she almost lost her balance after light contact with Chloe Trespeuch. The Frenchwoman tried to pass on the inside of her rival on one of the right turns, but her opponent closed her and she had to settle for silver today.
The bronze went to the Canadian Meryeta O’Dine, and the last in the final was the Australian Belle Brockhoff, who made a very bad start and never managed to recover until the final.
The great star of snowboard cross, the champion from PyeongChang 2018, Michela Moioli, who was the fastest in qualifying in the morning, failed to defend her gold after being eliminated in the semifinal series. In it, the Italian started well and led in the first control, but allowed Lindsey Jacobellis and Chloe Trespeuch to overtake her until the final. In the small final, Michela Moioli did not finish.
