Linda Fruhvirtova defeated Katie Volynets at the start of the WTA 1000 Madrid Open

Czech tennis talent Linda Fruhvirtova started successfully her participation at the WTA 1000 Madrid Open after defeating Katie Volynets (USA) by 2-0 (6:3, 7:5) and qualified for the second round.

The matches started with a break in favor of Katie Volynets, who took the lead of 0:2. Linda Fruhvirtova returned to the match with 4 consecutive games and overturned the result to 4:2. Both exchanged a break and the Czech teenager succeeded to lose the set at 6:3.

The second set was running equal in the result with both winning their serve games. Linda Fruhvirtova succeeded first to break the serve of her opponent in the 11th game, which was enough for her to close the set at 7:5.

In the second round of the WTA 1000 Madrid Open, Linda Fruhvirtova will face the 19th-seeded Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia).

Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan) also advanced to the second round after winning her opening match versus Claire Liu (USA) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:4) and in the next round will face the 5th-seeded Caroline Garcia (France).

Ana Bogdan (Romania) eliminated Anna Bondar (Hungary) after 2-1 (4:6, 6:4, 7:6) and in the second round will play versus the 33rd-seeded Shelby Rogers (USA).

Another Romanian tennis player, Sorana Cirstea, also advanced to the second round after defeating Lauren Davis (USA) by 2-1 (6:3, 3:6, 6:1).

Jule Niemeier (German) defeated Xinyu Wang (China) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:4), while Elisabetta Cocciaretto (Italy) eliminated Barbora Strycova (Czech Republic) after 2-0 (6:3, 7:6) and Karolina Muchova (Czech republic) won her opening match of the tournament versus Anett Kontaveit (Estonia) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2).

For the second round also qualified Rebecca Marino (Canada) after defeating Lin Zhu (China) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:4), as well as Maryna Zanevska (Belgium), who eliminated Sofia Kenin (USA) by 2-0 (6:0, 6:3).
