Two Chinese tennis players Lin Zhu and Qinwen Zheng will play on the semi-finals of the Huafa Technology WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai, China with a prize money of 2.4 million USD.
Lin Zhu qualified for the semi-finals after defeating the second-seeded Veronika Kudermetova (Russia) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:1) and losing to the fourth-seeded Liudmila Samsonova (Russia) by 1-2 (2:6, 6:2, 6:1) and finished as the top in the group.
Zhu Lin reached a career-high singles ranking of world No 31. She has won the WTA 250 Thailand Open in 2023 in singles and the WTA 250 Jiangxi Open in 2019 in doubles. She has also won one singles and one doubles title in WTA 125 tournaments, as well as 15 singles and six doubles titles on the ITF Circuit
Qinwen Zheng, who is participating with a “wild card”, from her side qualified for the semi-finals after defeating Donna Vekic (Croatia) by 2-1 (6:4, 6:7, 6:4) and the third-seeded Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) by 2-1 (6:4, 1:6, 6:2).
Zheng Qinwen reached a career-high singles ranking of world No 18 by the WTA. She has won two WTA, one WTA Challenger and eight ITF singles titles, and was named the 2022 WTA Newcomer of the Year.
The 12-player tournament is the first postseason event on the women’s tour. It features the 11 highest-ranked singles players who did not qualify for next month’s WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico.
