Brazilian tennis player Laura Pigossi won her first Challenger title at the WTA 125 IEB+ Argentina Open after defeating Maria Lourdes Carle (Argentina) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:2).
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics bronze medalist in doubles, Laura Pigossi, who is 5th-seeded in the tournament triumphed in the tournament after defeating Renata Zarazua (Mexico) in the semi-finals, Solana Sierra (Argentina) in the quarter-finals, Conny Perrin (Switzerland) in the Round of 16 and Leyre Romero Gormaz (Spain) in the first round.
In the final, The 29-year-old Laura Pigossi started the match hesitantly with both players exchanging two breaks each, but after that, the Brazilian layer stabilized her first serve and succeeded in making another break in the 8th game to finally win the match by 6:3. In the second set, Laura Pigossi achieved three breaks against only one for her opponent and closed the set at 6:2 to win the match and the title.
Laura Pigossi won her first Challenger title although she was the runner-up at the WTA 250 Copa Colsanitas presented by Zurich in 2022.
On the other hand, the 23-year-old Maria Lourdes Carle played her first WTA final. Last year, she reached the semi-finals of the tournament, losing to Panna Udvardy (Hungary). She has also another one more semi-final at the Challenger Tour at the WTA 125 Open Internacional Femeni Solgirones earlier this season.
