Laura Muir will compete in 3,000m event at the Glasgow World Indoor Athletics Championships

Scottish athlete Laura Muir plans to participate in the 3,000m run at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow from March 1 to March 3, 2024. Jemma Reekie, on the other hand, intends to start 800m in the championship.

The 30-year-old Laura Muir won gold medals at 1,500m and 3,000m at the Glasgow European Indoor Championships in 2019.

“Obviously, it is the Olympic year and the huge focus on Paris will be the basis of training camps and racing plans. But after we thought, my coach and I feel that Glasgow 2024 was a firm good opportunity to be missed”, said Laura Muir. “Looking at the schedules for the week and linking in with wider plans around that point of the year (prior to Paris) we’ve decided the 3000m (straight final) will work best for me. I’m looking forward to it and hopefully a few top Scots can make the GB and NI team”, added she.

Laura Muir is a Scottish middle- and long-distance runner. She is the Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medalist in the 1,500m, having previously finished seventh in the event at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Laura Muir won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships, and has three other top five placings in 1,500m finals at the World Athletics Championships, finishing fifth in 2015, fourth in 2017 (where she was also sixth in the 5,000m) and fifth in 2019. She is a two-time European 1,500m champion from 2018 and 2022 as well as the 2022 Commonwealth Games 1,500m champion and 800m bronze medalist.
