Laura Muir: The Olympic medal boosted my motivation for the World Athletics Championships

Laura Muir’s motivation to succeed at the World Athletics Championships is “only going to increase” now that she is an Olympic medallist. Laura Muir took silver in the 1,500m at Tokyo 2020 Olympics and will also compete at the Commonwealth Games and European Championships this summer. The 29-year-old Scottish athlete will start in the 1,500m in Oregon on Friday.

“I can participate in the competitions more calmly. When I’m calmer, I run better. It’s a win-win situation. I don’t think my motivation will decrease because of this Olympic medal. If nothing else, it will go up. I have nothing to lose now”, said Laura Muir. “It gave me an awful lot of confidence as an athlete to know that I’ve been there and done that. I’m so pleased that I was able to go there and get that medal last year”, added she.

Laura Muir, the 2018 European champion, twice finished fifth in the world 1,500m final and took silver in the event at the 2018 World Indoor Championships.

She thinks the 1,500m in Oregon will be “incredibly competitive”.

“It could potentially be more competitive than the Olympic final last year. It makes the achievement even better when you can get a medal because it’s so competitive”, said Laura Muir.
