Lina Muze-Sirma is a Latvian track and field athlete, who specializes in the javelin throw. She is the European U23 champion, the World U20 Championships Silver medalist, and the European (Winter) Throwing Cup winner. Her personal best is 64.87m, achieved at the Shanghai Diamond League in 2019.
Lina Muze-Sirma was born on December 4, 1992, in Smiltene, Latvia. She started in javelin throwing in 2005 and in June 2011 set a Latvian junior record of 60.64m.
Lina Muze-Sirma started her competitive career in 2008, winning the bronze at the Yalta UKR-BLR-RUS-LAT-TUR U18 Match. During the next season, she already earned her first national honor, finishing third at the Ventspils Latvian Championships and finished 6th at the Bressanone IAAF World Youth Championships.
In 2010, Lina Muze-Sirma won the javelin throw silver at the Moncton IAAF World Junior Championships and also triumphed with the gold medals at the Ventspils Latvian Junior Championships and Valmiera Smiltene-Valga Javelin Cup 2010, as well as the silver at the Jekabpils Javelin Throw Meeting.
In 2011, Lina Muze-Sirma started the season by winning the gold at the Riga Cup, where set a Latvian junior record of 60.64m. She continues the season by winning the gold at the Aanekoski Games and Strasbourg Meeting National D1, before triumphing with the silver at the Tallinn European Junior Championship and the bronze at the Liepaja Latvian Championships.
Lina Muze-Sirma continued with her strong performance in 2012, winning the title at the Kaunas Lithuanian Championships, where set a personal best of 61.04m, but also competed at the Helsinki European Championships and London 2012 Olympics. Meanwhile, she earned the silver at the Memorial Josefa Odlozila and the bronze at the Valmiera President’s Cup and Tallinn BIGBANK Kuldliig, as well as finished 6th at the prestigious event Berlin ISTAF.
In 2013, Lina Muze-Sirma triumphed with the gold at the Tampere European U23 Championships. She debuted in the Diamond League, competing at the Roma Golden Gala and Weltklasse Zurich, finishing 7th and 8th, respectively, and also competed at the Moscow IAAF World Championships, where did not overcome the qualifications. However, Lina Muze-Sirma won her first national title at the Jekabpils Latvian Championships, improving her personal best to 61.97m.
In 2014, Lina Muze-Sirma missed most of the season but succeeded in earning the bronze at the Ogre Latvian Championships and competed at the Zurich European Championships, where again failed at the qualifications. Meanwhile, she earned the gold at the Valmiera President’s Cup and Valga Javelin Cup.
Lina Muze-Sirma started the 2015 season strongly by finishing 6th at the Leiria European Cup Winter Throwing and winning the javelin throw gold at the Dakar IAAF World Challenge. She finished 4th at the Riga Cup and won the gold at the Raasepori Karis Telefon Games, before making the most remarkable success for the season, winning the bronze at the Gwangju Universiade. Lina Muze-Sirma continues the season by winning the silver at the Lapinlahti Savo Games and the bronze at the Valmiera President’s Cup and Berlin ISTAF.
In 2016, Lina Muze-Sirma won the silver at the Arad European Throwing Cup with 61.26m and continued the season in the Diamond League by finishing fourth at the Meeting International Mohammed VI d’Athletisme de Rabat and eighth at Roma Golden Gala – Pietro Mennea. She earned the gold at the Jelgava Jana Lusa Cup and competed at the Amsterdam European Athletics Championships, but did not overcome the qualifications.
In 2017, Lina Muze-Sirma finished 5th at the Turku Paavo Nurmi Game and 4th at the Meeting Stanislas Nancy, before winning the bronze at the Luzern Spitzen Leichtathletik. She earned another national podium, winning the bronze at the Ogre Latvian Championships, and closed the season by triumphing with the gold at the Rovereto Palio Citta della Quercia.
Lina Muze-Sirma won her second national javelin throw title in 2018, winning the gold at the Riga Latvian Championships. She competed at the Berlin European Athletics Championships but again did not qualify for the final. Lina Muze-Sirma competed at the Berlin ISTAF and Luzern Spitzen Leichtathletik, finishing 6th and 5th, respectively. During the season she reached 61.19m at the Lappeenranta Motonet GP, where earned the silver.
Lina Muze-Sirma made her breakthrough in 2019, winning her first Diamond League honor at the Shanghai Diamond League, where set a personal best of 64.87m. At the Diamond League’s Golden Gala – Pietro Mennea she earned the bronze with 63.72m and also competed at the Diamond League’s final Weltklasse Zurich, where remained 7th with 61.60m. Lina Muze-Sirma competed at the Doha IAAF World Championships in Athletics but did not overcome the qualifications. Meanwhile, during the season, she earned the silver at the Ogre Latvian Championships and Kuortane Games.
In 2020, Lina Muze-Sirma triumphed with another national title, winning the gold at the Jelgava Latvian Championships, but also earning the gold at the Ogre Baltic Team Championships and Kuortane Games. She won the javelin throw silver at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, where reached a season’s best of 63.19m.
Lina Muze-Sirma made her Olympics debut in 2021, competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where unfortunately did not overcome the qualifications. Meanwhile, she earned the gold at the Meeting Jaen Paraiso Interior, Kladno hazi a Kladenske Memorialy, and Valmiera Baltic Team Championships, the silver at the Paavo Nurmi Games, and the bronze at the Hungarian GP Series Budapest. Lina Muze-Sirma competed at the Diamond League’s Oslo Bislett Games and CITIUS Meeting, finishing 7th and 6th, respectively, before winning the silver at the Palio Citta della Quercia with 63.42m. She competed at the Diamond League’s final Weltklasse Zurich but remained 5th. During the season she recorded a result of 64.81m, very close to her personal best, at the Janis Lusis Memorial in Jelgava, where won the gold.
In 2022, Lina Muze-Sirma finished 6th at the Eugene World Athletics Championships and 7th in the Munich European Athletics Championships, as well as 4th at the Diamond League’s final Weltklasse Zurich. She won the silver at the Diamond League’s Meeting de Paris. Meanwhile, she earned the gold at the Leiria European Throwing Cup, as well as the silver at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix in Tokyo and Valmiera Latvian Championships.
In 2023, Lina Muze-Sirma continues being one of the world’s top javelin throwers, winning the bronze at the Diamond League’s Athletissima Lausanne and Memorial van Damme Bruxelles. She earned the national title at the Valmiera Latvian Championships with 64.78m, as well as the gold at the Baltic Team Championships/ President’s Cup 2023 and Chorzow European Athletics Team Championships Second Division. Meanwhile, she finished 9th at the Budapest World Athletics Championships.
