Latvian athlete Anete Sietina

Anete Sietina is a Latvian javelin throwing athlete, who is European U20 and U23 Championships silver medalist, as well as World U18 Championships bronze medalist. She is a multiple national medalist and champion and has a personal best of 64.47m.

Anete Sietina was born on February 5, 1996, in Limbazi, Latvia. She started in athletics at an early age. She competed in the javelin throw and shot put, but her latest specialized in the javelin throw.

Anete Sietina started her competitive career in 2011, winning the silver at the Bauska Javelin Throw U18 Meeting. She also competed at the Valmiera LAT-LTU-EST Throwing Match, where finished 5th.

In 2012, Anete Sietina earned the silver at the Valmeira City Championships and the bronze at the Riga City Championships. She competed at the Liepaja Cup, where finished 5th. In the next season, Anete Sietina continued competing mostly in regional events, winning the gold at the Riga City Championship, Jekabpils and Valmiera meetings, as well as the bronze at the Liepaja Cup. She first time crossed the 50-meter mark and set a personal best of 52.13m. She won the javelin throw bronze at the Donetsk IAAF World Youth Championships and the gold at the Alytus Baltic U18 Match.

In 2014, Anete Sietina made her debut at the national championships, finishing 4th at the Ogre Latvian Championships. She finished 5th at the Riga Cup 2014 and competed at the Eugene IAAF World Junior Championships, but did not overcome the qualifications. However, she won the gold at the Valmiera Baltic U20 Throwing Meeting.

Anete Sietina won the silver at the 2015 Eskilstuna European Junior Championships and the 2015 Ventspils Latvian Championships, where she improved her personal best to 60.01m. Meanwhile, during the season she earned the bronze at the Jelgava Jana Lusa Cup and the silver at the Valmiera President’s Cup, as well as the gold medals at the Karksi-Nuia Baltic U20 Throwing Meeting and Jekabpils Latvian U20 Championships.

Anete Sietina started the 2016 season by winning the javelin throw silver at the Ellwangen Sparkassen-Meeting, but also finished 9th at the Beijing IAAF World Challenge and 5th at the Riga Cup. She won the bronze at the Jelgava Jana Lusa Cup, silver at the Valmiera Latvian Olimpiade and Espoo Nordic-Baltic U23 Championships.

In 2017, Anete Sietina won the silver at the Bydgoszcz European U23 Championship and set a personal best of 64.47m, which is still her best result. She earned the silver at the Ogre Latvian Championships and Riga Cup, as well as the gold at the Meeting Stanislas Nancy. Anete Sietina competed at the London IAAF World Championships in Athletics but did not qualify for the finals. She also competed at the Taipei Universiade, finishing 6th.

In 2018, Anete Sietina started the season by winning the gold at the Ogre Latvian University Championships and the silver at the Riga Cup 2018. She earned the silver at the Riga Latvian Championships and competed at the Berlin European Athletics Championships, but again did not qualify for the finals.

Anete Sietina won the javelin throw gold at the Parnu Athletics Night in 2019, as well as the bronze at the Jana Lusa Cup. She competed also at the Doha IAAF World Championships in Athletics but again did not overcome the qualifications.

In 2020, Anete Sietina won the bronze at the Jelgava Latvian Championships and the bronze at the Ogre Baltic Team Championships.

Anete Sietina won her first national title in 2021, triumphing with the javelin throw gold at the Jelgava Latvian Championships with 63.70m, and also was part of the Latvian Olympics team. However, she finished 10th in the javelin throw qualifications with 58.84m. Meanwhile, she won the gold at the Palanga Lithuanian University Championships, Ventspils D. Kula Javelin Throwing Meeting, and Talsu Skepi Meeting.

Anete Sietina missed most of the 2022 season but succeeded in earning the gold at the Inese Jaunzeme and Janis Lusis Memorial. In 2023, she returned to track and field athletics, winning the silver at the Valmiera Latvian Championships. She triumphed with the gold at the Motonet GP Lappeenranta and Parnu Beach Stadium Meeting 2023, as well as the silver at the Oulu Motonet GP. In August, she finished 4th at the Budapest World Athletics Championships with 63.18m just a few centimeters from the podium.
