Lara Gut-Behrami is close to total World Cup dominance

Swiss alpine skier Lara Gut-Behrami is close to legitimizing total World Cup dominance this season. The 32-year-old Olympic champion in Super-G finished second in the second start of the discipline in Kvitfjell and came close to winning the small crystal globe.

She has a lead of 69 points in the standings over Cornelia Hutter, and until the end of the season there is only one start that gives a maximum of 100 points. Separately, Lara Gut-Behrami has a 326-point lead over Federica Brignone in the overall World Cup standings, with third-placed Mikaela Shiffrin being on 385 points behind.

A total of six starts remain until the end of the season, with Mikaela Shiffrin planning to return to the track at the next round.

Lara Gut-Behrami is chasing a fifth Crystal Globe in the Super-G event, which would tie her with record holders Lindsey Vonn and Katja Seizinger. She now has 45 World Cup victories and is just one behind Renate Gotschl in fifth place on the all-time leaderboard. She has 22 Super-G wins, with only Lindsey Vonn having more at 28.

With her victory in Kvitfjell, Federica Brignone became only the seventh female Alpine skier with 10 successes in the Super-G.
