Lara Gut-Behrami claimed her 35th World Cup victory at the women’s giant slalom in Killington

Swiss skier Lara Gut-Behrami won the Alpine Skiing World Cup women’s giant slalom in Killington, USA.

Lara Gut-Behrami, 31, claimed her 35th World Cup victory, braving the gale-force winds that plagued the competitors. She posted third and seventh times in both heats and finished with a total time of 1:44.08 minutes, just 0.07 seconds ahead of Italian ski racer Marta Bassino and 0.20 seconds ahead of Swedish skier Sara Hector.

The biggest disappointment remains in Sara Hector, who was the leader after the first run with a 0.43 second lead over Lara Gut-Behrami, but was unable to cope with the second run.

Slovakian Petra Vlhova finished in the fourth position, 0.46 seconds behind the winner, and the fifth was Austrian Katharina Liensberger, 0.55 seconds behind. The sixth position is 0.61 seconds behind and it goes to Ragnhild Mowinckel. The Norwegian was second after the first run.

American ski star Mikaela Shiffrin didn’t have a good day, finishing 13th, 1.40 seconds behind Lara Gut-Behrami.

However, Mikaela Shiffrin remains on the top at the overall World Cup standings after the first three starts with 220 points. Petra Vlhova is second with 170 points, and Sara Hector is third with 141. Lara Gut-Behrami shared sixth place with German Lena Duerr with 100 points each.

Another slalom race is coming up on Sunday at the Superstar track in Killington.
