PyeongChang 2018 Olympics silver medalist in short track speed skating Kim Boutin was eliminated in the 1,000m series at the Beijing 2022 Olympics, and reigning champion Suzanne Schulting of the Netherlands set a new Olympic record.
The 27-year-old Canadian led for most of the race but fell in the final turn just before crossing the finish line in the fifth series.
Kim Boutin will also take part in the women’s 3,000m relay with the Canadian team.
The reigning champion Suzanne Schulting gave the best time in the qualifiers – 1:27.292 minutes, which is a new Olympic record.
Olympic champion in 500m short track speed skating Arianna Fontana of Italy also advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1,000m.
Kim Boutin is a Canadian short track speed skater. She won silver in the 1,000m and bronze in the 500m and 1,500m events at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics. She was the first Canadian female short track speed skater to win three individual Olympic medals in a single Olympics and the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic medal in the 1,500 m. On November 3, 2019, she set a new world-record time of 41.936 sec in the women’s 500m event, becoming the first woman to skate the 500m in under 42 seconds.
