Khadija Shaw scored a hat-trick for Manchester City WFC to blow Tottenham Hotspur Women by 7-0 in a match from Round 8 of the England Women’s Super League. The match was played at the Academy Stadium in Manchester in front of about 4,000 fans.
The Jamaican striker Khadija Shaw scored three goals for 15 minutes in the first half to secure the victory for her team. Laura Coombs scored two more goals for Manchester City WFC, while Lauren Hemp and Jill Roord added one goal each for the final 7-0.
Lauren Hemp was awarded the player of the match, in addition to her goal, she made two assists. Khadija Shaw, Jill Roord, Laura Coombs, and Leila Ouahabi received high values too. Despite the dominance of Manchester City WFC, their opponents also made some strong attacks and had 4 shots in the target, but the goalkeeper Khiara Keating saved all of them.
Earlier in the day, Chelsea Women defeated Leicester City WFC at home by 5-2. Lauren James and an own goal of Courtney Nevin gave a lead for the hosts by 2-0 already before the 5th minute. Jutta Rantala reduced to 2-1 in the 26th minute, but Samantha Kerr scored for 3-1 in the 40th minute. At the very end of the first half, Samantha Tierney again reduced the score to 3-2. However, during the second half, Lauren James (58′) and Agnes Beever-Jones (88′) formed the final score of 5-2.
Manchester United WFC also achieved an important win as a visitor of Bristol City WFC. The goals of Hinata Miyazawa (50′) and Nikita Parris (55′) both assisted by Ella Ann Toone brought the victory for the Red Devils.
Chelsea Women is the leader in the standings without a loss with 22 points, followed by Arsenal Women and Manchester City WFC with 19 points and 16 points, respectively.
