Munich 2022 European outdoor 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson achieved the indoor season best at the ORLEN Copernicus Cup in Torun. The British athlete, who is also an Olympic and world medallist, won the four-lap race in Torun in 1:57.87 min. This is also a new record of the tournament.
Noelie Yarigo (Benin), who had led the world rankings for the year until today, improved her personal best to second position with 1:58.48 min. Slovenian athlete Anita Horvat was third in 2:01.42 min.
Keely Hodgkinson is an English athlete specializing in the 800m. At the age of 19, she won the silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, breaking the British record set by Kelly Holmes in 1995. She is the 2022 World Championships and 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medallist, 2022 European champion (her first major senior outdoor gold), and the youngest ever European women’s indoor 800m champion from Toruń 2021. In 2021, she became the Diamond League champion. In February 2022, she set a British 800m indoor record, placing her sixth on the respective world all-time list. She also holds the world indoor best in the 600m.
