The American MMA righter Katlyn Chookagian defeated Brazilian Jennifer Maia by unanimous decision at the UFC Vegas 46. All the judges scored the fight 30-27 in favor of Chookagian, which brought her 17th professional MMA win and 10th in the UFC.
Constantly beating Jennifer Maia to the punch, Katlyn Chookagian used her long range and rapid-fire strikes to keep the Brazilian at bay in nearly every exchange while also mixing in a couple of really well-timed takedowns.
She didn’t give Jennifer Maia a second to breathe as she used her quick output to immediately put the Brazilian on her heels. Despite facing a noted submission specialist, Katlyn Chookagian actually dragged Maia to the ground and maintained control on top as the first round came to a close.
In the end, Katlyn Chookagian’s consistency paid off as she got the win while also beating Jennifer Maia for a second time in the UFC.
“I’m really happy”, said Katlyn Chookagian after her third straight victory. “I’ve been trying a lot of new things. Since I started, the goal has always been to be UFC champion. If there are any girls in the top 10 that I haven’t fought, I will fight them or I will fight them again. Whatever I have to do”, added she.
This win against another ranked fighter, all but confirms a rematch with Kyrgyz champion Valentina Shevchenko for the women’s flyweight championship.
Katlyn Chookagian has a personal MMA record of 17-4-0 (W-L-D). She is in a series of three consecutive wins versus Cynthia Calvillo, Viviane Araujo, and Jennifer Maia.
Jennifer Maia has a personal MMA record of 19-8-1 (W-L-D). She is the former Invicta FC Flyweight World Champion.
