An incredible show and great drama accompanied the women’s pole vault final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. The Olympic and world champion Kathryn Moon and the Australian Nina Kennedy could not determine which of the two is better and after absolutely equal indicators “shared” the gold medal with the best result in the world for the season of 4.90m. Both managed that height on the third attempt, then had three faults at 4.95m and decided not to jump for first place.
European indoor and outdoor champion Wilma Murto broke Finland’s national record to earned the bronze medal with 4.80m. Tina Sutej also jumped 4.80m for Slovenia’s record but finished fourth due to a single mistake at 4.75m.
Nina Kennedy is an Australian athlete who holds the national record in the pole vault. She competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and won gold in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Kathryn Moon is an American professional athlete, won gold medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, 2022 World Athletics Championships, as well as a silver at the 2022 World Indoor Championships. She was also 2019 Pan American Games silver medalist.
