The ninth-seeded Katie Boulter (Great Britain) advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis tournament after defeating Kyoka Okamura (Japan) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:2). The British tennis player needed only 70 minutes to overcome the resistance of her Japanese opponent.
Katie Boulter won 80% of her first serve points and 76% from her second serve points and did not give a single breakpoint to her opponent.
The British tennis player started the match with a break and took a lead of 2:0. Kyoka Okamura won her service game “on 15”, before Katie Boulter to triumph in the next four games and closed the set at 6:1 in just 29 minutes of play.
The second set started equally with both player winning their service games by 3:2 without allowing a breakpoint. Katie Boulter broke for 4:2 and again for 6:2 to win the match.
In the next round, Katie Boulter will face Bianca Vanessa Andreescu (Canada), who advanced to the quarter finals after retiring of her opponent, the second-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil), in the first set at 3:0.
The top-seeded Qinwen Zheng (China) also qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament after defeating Moyuka Uchijima (Japan) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:0).
