Karoline Knotten replaces Ingrid Tandrevold at the Norway biathlon relay

Norwegian biathlete Ingrid Tandrevold, who collapsed after yesterday’s women’s biathlon pursuit final, will not start in the remaining races until the end of the Beijing 2022 Olympics. The 25-year-old will return to her homeland with the first possible flight and will not take part in the relay on Wednesday, where Norway is the favorite for gold.

Ingrid Tandrevold, who had heart problems in the past, endured the chase, but as soon as he crossed the finish line she lost consciousness and medical intervention was required.

“I was banned by doctors from competing more at this Olympics and going home to Norway. I wanted to help the girls in the relay, but my health is more important”, said Ingrid Tandrevold. “The decision is difficult, but I am only 25 and I hope to have many more years ahead of me in sports”, added the Norwegian.

Ingrid Tandrevold is a three-time world relay champion and a major part of Norway’s Olympic squad. For the upcoming start in the relay, she will be replaced by Karoline Knotten, who will complement the squad, which also includes the three-time Olympic champion Marte Olsbu Roeiseland, Tiril Eckhoff and Ida Lien.

“I’m feeling good now. I just crossed the limit of my physical ability at this altitude in this tough race. I’ve had heart problems in the past and I need to be more careful”, said Ingrid Tandrevold.

Norwegian team doctor explained that Ingrid Tandrevold will undergo extensive examinations to assess her condition.

Karoline Knotten is a Norwegian biathlete. She has competed in the Biathlon World Cup since 2018 and represented Norway at the Biathlon World Championships 2020. She has one bronze medal from the World Cup in Kontiolahti 2021.
