Karolina Pliskova withdrew from WTA 1000 Madrid Open due to a knee injury

Czech tennis player Karolina Pliskova withdrew from this week’s Masters’ tennis tournament WTA 1000 Madrid Open due to a knee injury, but the former world No 1 said she hoped to recover in time for next month’s competition WTA 1000 Rome Open and the French Open / Roland Garros.

Karolina Pliskova, who is WTA No 15, tweeted that she suffered the injury in her loss to Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix In Stuttgart.

The tournament in Italy, WTA 1000 Rome Open, will run from May 9 to 20, ahead of the French Open / Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of the year, which starts on May 28. Karolina Pliskova’s best achievement in the French Open / Roland Garros was in 2017, when she reached the semifinals.

Karolina Pliskova is a former world No 1 in singles, known for her powerful serve and forehand and won 16 singles and five doubles titles on the WTA tour, 10 singles and six doubles titles on the ITF Circuit, and over 20 million USD in prize money.
