Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) qualified for the second round of the WTA 250 Open de Rouen women’s clay tennis tournament with a prize money of 267,082 USD. The Czech tennis player defeated Polina Kudermetova (Russia) by 2-1 (7:5, 1:6, 7:5) in 2:04 hours.
The former world’s number one made one late break in the first set and did not give a single breakpoint to her opponent to close the set by 7:5. Polina Kudermetova started strongly the second set with two breaks and took a lead by 5:0, which was enough to win it by 6:1. Both players exchanged a break in the the middle of the third set, as Karolina Pliskova took a lead by 4:2, but her opponent immediately equalized to 4:4. The Czech tennis player saved two breakpoints in the 11th game and broke in the 12th to win the set by 7:5 and the match.
In the next round, Karolina Pliskova will face the 6th-seeded Sloane Stephens (USA), who eliminated her compatriot Peyton Stearns by 2-1 (1:6, 6:1, 6:3).
The 16-year-old Russian tennis talent Mirra Andreeva, who is 5th-seeded) also qualified for the second round of the WTA 250 Open de Rouen after defeating Nadia Podoroska (Argentina) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:3).
Magda Linette (Poland) faced some problems in the first set, but after finding her gameplay she gave only one game to her opponent Elsa Jacquemot (France) in the second set to win the match by 2-0 (7:5, 6:1) in 1:39 hours.
