Karolina Pliskova managed to advance to the second round of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open

Karolina Pliskova managed to advance to the second round of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open in Montreal, known as Rogers Cup, with a prize pool of more than 2.7 million USD. The Czech, who reached the final two years ago, eliminated Lin Zhu (China) by 2-1 (6:3, 6:7, 6:2) in a match that lasted 2:22 hours.

In the match, Karolina Pliskova made 11 aces and committed 7 double faults. She converted five of 16 break points.

The match was stopped due to rain at 8-8 in the tiebreak of the second set, just after Karolina Pliskova missed two match points. After play resumed, Lin Zhu won the next two points to take the set, but the Czech tennis player gave her no chance in a decisive third set in which she broke the Chinese’s serve three times.

In the next round Karolina Pliskova will face the top-seeded Iga Swiatek (Poland).

Rain disrupted the program on the first day of the tournament. However, Sorana Cirstea (Romania) also managed to advance to the second round after defeating Varvara Gracheva (France) by 2-0 (6:4, 7:6). In the next round she will face the winner between Anastasia Potapova (Russia) and 14th-seeded Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic).

Paula Badosa (Spain) withdrew from the tournament due to injury. In the first round, she was supposed to play Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil), but Magdalena Frech (Poland) was included in the scheme in her place.
