Karolina Muchova qualified for the semi-finals of the US Open

Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic) qualified for the semi-finals of the US Open Tennis Championship. The Czech player won by 2-0 (6:1, 6:4) against the 22nd-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil) in a match that lasted an hour and 25 minutes.

Karolina Muchova had two breaks in the first set and quickly took the lead. In the second set, the Czech tennis player called for timeouts several times, needing medical attention for stomach problems, but managed to get through and qualify for her second consecutive semifinal in New York.

Karolina Muchova twice won the serve of the Brazilian, twice for 3:2 and 4:3, then at 5:4 served successfully to win the match.

The Czech, who is world’s No 52, played in the penultimate stage of the US Open last season, but then underwent wrist surgery and was sidelined for nine months.

Roland Garros 2023 runner-up Karolina Muchova, who underwent surgery and returned to action in June, has won four of her four match with Beatriz Haddad Maia. This is her sixth tournament since her recovery from injury.

In the semi-finals, Karolina Muchova will face the sixth-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA), who eliminated the world’s number one and top-seeded Iga Swiatek (Poland).
