Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic) defeated Sorana Cirstea (Romania) by 2-0 (6:0, 6:3) in the quarterfinals of the US Open and will face Cori Coco Gauff in a match for a place in the final. The two played for the title in Cincinnati in late August, when the American tennis player triumphed.
Sorana Cirstea made an impressive raid at the US Open 2023, but was completely powerless against Karolina Muchova. The Czech player now has semifinals in three of the Grand Slam tournaments.
Karolina Muchova started the match with an early break, and at 3:0 she saved 9 break points, which largely broke Sorana Cirstea’s resistance. The 30th-seeded Romanian did not win a single game until the end of the first set, which lasted 42 minutes.
At the beginning of the second set, Sorana Cirstea broke her opponent, but was unable to develop her advantage and Karolina Muchova quickly equalized, and then closed the match with a series of 4 consecutive games.
The Czech tennis player made 6 aces and 32 winners to just 12 for Sorana Cirstea, who converted just one of her 11 breakpoints.
