Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic) and Sorana Cirstea (Romania) qualified for the quarterfinals of the US Open tennis championship.
The 10th-seeded Karolina Muchova defeated Wang Xinyu (China) by 2-1 (6:3, 5:7, 6:1) in 2:34 hours. In the third set, she completely dominated and gave only a game to her opponent.
The Czech tennis player, who is 2021 Australian Open semi-finalist, arrived in New York with a career-high world ranking after reaching the final in Cincinnati earlier in August.
“I went back to my game, where they often change the rhythm of plays. That was the key to success”, said Karolina Muchova in her postgame interview, in which she recorded 32 winners.
The next opponent of the Czech player will be Sorana Cirstea (Romania), who eliminated the Tokyo 2020 Olympics champion and the 15th-seeded Belinda Bencic (Switzerland) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3) in 85 minutes.
The American fans favorite Cori Coco Gauff also continues. The 19-year-old tennis talent managed to cope with the veteran Caroline Wozniacki in three sets, defeating her by 2-1 (6:3, 3:6, 6:1).
