Kamila Valieva won gold in the third tournament of the Russian Grand Prix series of figure skating in Kazan. She collected 241.72 points from both programs after receiving 83.30 points for the short and 158.42 points for the voluntary.
Veronika Yametova finished in second place with 210.34 points (75.90 and 134.44), and Kseniia Sinitsyna was third with 207.55 points (70.54 and 137.01).
Kamila Valieva failed to perform a quadruple toe loop in three attempts. She announced that she would do this jump in a voluntary program, but fell. After completing her program, the figure skater attempted a quadruple toe loop twice before the judges’ scores were announced, but was unable to land it.
The 16-year-old Kamila Valieva is the Olympic team champion from the Beijing 2022 Games and the European champion from this year. She trains under the guidance of Eteri Tutberidze.
The Russian figure skater is currently under investigation for the use of a banned substance, but she can participate in tournaments in her home country.
Annabelle Nicole Morozov and Devid Naryzhnyy became first in the dance pairs with 202.57 points (81.50 for the kick dance and 121.07 for the volley program).
