Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, who is preparing for the start of the women’s individual competition at the Beijing 2022 Olympics, said she was emotionally exhausted by the events of the past week.
“These days have been very difficult for me”, said the 15-year-old figure skater. Kamila Valieva for the first time commented on the doping scandal that erupted around her in China. “It’s as if I have no emotions left. I’m happy, but at the same time I’m emotionally exhausted”, said the Russian, who was admitted to the individual competition by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
However, if Kamila Valieva takes one of the first three places in the rankings, there will be no award ceremony, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced earlier because of the possibility that she will still be punished after a full investigation into the doping case.
Kamila Valieva commented that she watched the entire hearing from the Olympic Village via a video link.
“I sat there for 7 hours. We only had a 20-minute break. I stood and watched. It was very difficult, but obviously, this is one of the moments I have to overcome”, added the figure skater, emphasizing that the whole process taught her that adult life “may be unfair at some point”.
The short program for women in figure skating will be held today, and the free – on February 17.
