Estonian tennis player Kaia Kanepi qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Tallinn Open after defeating the American Ann Li by 2-0 (7:5, 7:5). The match lasted 1:41 hours and had total of 8 breaks.
The first set started equally and both players took their service games Kaia Kanepi had a chance to take advantage by 3:2 breaking her opponent but failed to win her next serving game and the score was running equal to the very end. In the 11th game of the set, however, the Estonian tennis player succeed to break the serve of Ann Li on zero and then served for the match. She missed three set points and was forced to save a break point, before finally win the game and the set.
In the second game, things changed and Ann Li first took a lead after a break. She won the second game of the set and took a lead but failed at her next serving game and the score was again equalized. The American again took a lead in the 6th game but the situation repeated and Kaia Kanepi reached 4:4. In the 11th game of the set, the Estonian tennis player broke the serve of Ann Li and served for the match. She saved two break point and won the game on the second match point. Thus, Kaia Kanepi qualified for the quarter-finals, where will face Karolina Muchova, who defeated Viktorija Golubic by 2-1 (4:6, 6:0, 6:2).
In other matches today, two of the 9th-seeded Jil Teichmann lost to Ysaline Bonaventure (Belgium) by 0-2 (6:7, 3:6).
The 8th-seeded Shuai Zhang also was eliminated from the WTA 250 Tallinn Open. She lost to Donna Vekic by 0-2 (2:6, 4:6).
