Jutta Leerdam won her third European 1,000m title

The Dutch speed skater Jutta Leerdam won her third European 1,000m title at the ISU European Speed Skating Championships in Thialf / Heerenveen, triumphing in the final with 1:14.45 min.

She overtook her compatriot Antoinette Rijpma-De Jong by 0.59 sec, while the bronze went to Vanessa Herzog (Austria) delaying 1.29 sec from the winner. The Top 5 were completed by Isabel Grevelt (Netherlands) and Karolina Bosiek (Poland).

Jutta Leerdam is one of the top speed skaters in Europe and the world, being world champion at the 2017 World Junior Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Since turning professional she won the 1000m world title twice (2020 and 2023), silver at that distance at the 2022 Winter Olympics and also the gold medal at the World Sprint Championships in 2022

Marijke Groenewoud (Netherlands) triumphed with the gold in the women’s mass start, while the silver went toher compatriot Irene Schouten and the bronze was for Francesca Lollobrigida (Italy).

Team Netherlands of Joy Beune, Irene Schouten, and Marijke Groenewoud, won also the gold at Team Pursuit Women. Germany and Switzerlands remained with silver and bronze, respectively.
