Julien Alfred won the 100m sprint in Hungary ahead of Sha’Carri Richardson

Julien Alfred (Saint Lucia) defeated Sha’Carri Richardson (USA) in the 100m sprint at the International Athletics Championships in Szekesfehervar, Hungary. The 22-year-old Julien Alfred won the sprint in 10.89 sec (0.7 m/s) and was just 0.08 seconds off her personal best set in Texas in May.

Sha’Carri Richardson finished second in 10.97 sec and her compatriot Tamari Davis finished third in 11.02 sec.

“A lot of people would say it’s a surprising result, but I felt the power and I knew I could do it. I couldn’t be in better shape a month before the World Championships”, said Julien Alfred, whose next race is at the Monaco Diamond League in the 200m sprint.

Julien Alfred is a Saint Lucian sprinter. She won the silver medal in the 100m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She is the joint North American indoor record holder for the 60m. Julien Alfred was the first woman in NCAA to break the seven-second barrier over the 60m. She is a three-time individual NCAA Division I champion.
