Reigning Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred (Saint Lucia) has confirmed that she will be among the participants in the Diamond League final in Brussels on September 13 and 14. If she decides to compete in the 100m and 200m finals, the Saint Lucian sprinter will face off against Sha’Carri Richardson (USA) in the 100m and Daryll Neita (Great Britain) in the 200m. Triple Olympic champion Gabby Thomas is yet to collect the required number of points for the final, but most probably she will join the elite athletes in the Diamond League Final.
“I’m super happy with my performance at the Olympics and all my focus is now on the Diamond League final. I look forward to this year’s edition as an unforgettable one with the fans. Get your tickets now and see you in September”, said Julien Alfred in a video released by Diamond League organizers.
Julien Alfred won the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics in the 100m event, setting a new national record of 10.72 sec in the final. Her medal was the first-ever Olympic medal for Saint Lucia. She then won a silver in the 200m. Julien Alfred also won the gold medal in the 60m at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships as well as the silver medal in the 100m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
