Sweden’s Jonna Sundling won the gold medal in the women’s cross-country sprint at the Beijing 2022 Olympics.
The 27-year-old Jonna Sundling, who also won gold at the World Cup last year, finished with a time of 3:09.68 minutes. She went ahead from her competitors in the middle of the 1.4-km distance and did not give a chance to catch up.
Second in 2.88 seconds was another Swede – Maja Dahlqvist, and the bronze medal went to the American Jessie Diggins, who crossed the final line with a delay of 3.16 seconds behind the winner.
Another American, Rosie Brennan, finished fourth, and Nadine Fahndrich of Switzerland and Emma Ribom of Sweden completed the Top 6.
For the first time in the history of the discipline, no Norwegian participated in the final, and another big surprise was the elimination of the Russian Natalia Nepryaeva in the quarterfinals.
