Jessica Pegula won the second title of her career after triumphing in the last tennis competition of the season of the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open in Mexico with a prize fund of 2.527 million USD.
The 3rd-seeded American defeated the 4th-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece) in the final by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3) in 71 minutes. Jessica Pegula had five breaks in the match and once she lost her serve.
After this success, the 28-year-old American tennis player climbed to the world’s No 3 in the WTA rankings.
Before the final, Maria Sakkari played her semi-final match against Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic), and won by 2-0 (7:5, 6:4). The match was abandoned a day earlier after the first set because of heavy rain caused by Hurricane Roslyn, which reached the west coast of Mexico.
Jessica Pegula and Maria Sakkari will take part in the WTA Finals Fort Worth starting on October 31.
