The 3rd-seeded Jessica Pegula qualified for the final of the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open, which is the last tennis competition of the season and has a prize fund of 2.527 million USD.
The American tennis player defeated Victoria Azarenka from Belarus by 2-0 (7:6, 6:1) in 90 minutes.
Jessica Pegula overcame a 0:3 deficit in the first set but dominated in the tiebreak. In the second set, she was aggressive and gave only one game to the former world’s number one Victoria Azarenka.
The 28-year-old American, who is aiming for a second career title, awaits the winner of the match between 4th-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece) and Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic) in Sunday’s final.
Maria Sakkari won the first set 7-5 before the match was suspended due to heavy rain caused by Hurricane Roslyn, which is approaching the west coast of Mexico.
