Jessica Pegula defended her title at the WTA 1000 Canadian Open

Jessica Pegula WTA 1000 Canadian Open

Jessica Pegula (USA) defended her title at the WTA 1000 Canadian Open, which is being held in Toronto. The American tennis played defeated in the final her compatriot Amanda Anisimova by 2-1 (6:3, 2:6, 6:1) in a match that lasted 1:30 hours.

Jessica Pegula started strongly the match, breaking the serve of her opponent already in the first game and then again in the 9th game to close the set at 6:3. She not only did not give Amanda Anisimova a single breakpoint in the first set, but also gave only one point at her serve to her opponent.

The second set, however, was totally different, although Jessica Pegula won convincingly “on zero” the first game on her serve. Amanda Anisimova succeeded to break in the third game and again broke in the 7th game to close the set at 6:2 and equalize the score.

Jessica Pegula responded to that strongly by winning five games in a row in the beginning of the third set, which brought her the success by 6:1 and thus winning the title for the second time in a row.

For Amanda Anisimova this was the biggest success after reaching the quarter-finals at the Wimbledon in 2022. She has won two WTA Tour titles and reached three finals in total.
