The American tennis star Jessica Pegula, who is currently the world’s No 4, shared that last year she considered ending her career permanently because of her mother Kim’s health problems.
Kim Pegula, who is the co-owner and president of the National Football League’s team Buffalo Bills and the National Hockey League’s tem Buffalo Sabres, suffered a cardiac arrest in June. She received first aid from her other daughter, Kelly, before paramedics arrived, who restored her breathing.
Jessica Pegula learned the news after returning home in Florida after the French Open, where she lost to eventual champion Iga Swiatek but climbed to the world’s No 8.
“Suddenly I went from ‘Let’s celebrate my top 10 ranking!’ to ‘Should I be thinking about a career after tennis much sooner than I thought?’ can handle any situation, but this was too much”, said Jessica Pegula She added she wanted to share her mother’s story after the Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest during a National Football League game last month.
The tennis player Jessica Pegula later competed at Wimbledon and the US Open and reached her career-high ranking of No 3.
“My dad didn’t want me to play at Wimbledon, but I knew she would be disappointed if I missed the tournament because of her. I had to deal with a lot of speculation and questions about her health, and even denying rumors that she had died”, added Jessica Pegula, who lost to Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals of this year’s Australian Open. “It wasn’t the most fun Wimbledon for me, but I had some good wins and I was proud to be able to come out and compete given the situation”, added she.
