Jessica Pegula eliminated Elina Svitolina (USA) in the third round after 2-1 (6:4, 4:6, 6:2) in an hour and 52 minutes of play and expects to face her compatriot and 17th-seeded Madison Keys. Against Svitolina, Jessica Pegula lost her first set at the Grand Slam tournament, making a total of three breaks in the match. In the decisive third set, the Ukrainian led by 2:1, but the American tennis player won the next five games and triumphed.
Ons Jabeur overcame the resistance of Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic) by 2-1 (5:7, 7:6, 6:3) in a match that lasted 2:50 hours. Her next opponent is Qinwen Zheng (China), who eliminated Lucia Bronzetti (Italy) by 2-1 (6:3, 4:6, 6:4).
Ons Jabeur said she felt like a “zombie” during the week due to illness, but was able to overcome Marie Bouzkova. “The match was very difficult for both of us. She didn’t want to give up, and I tried to give my best”, added she.
Wimbledon champion and 9th-seeded Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic) reached the fourth round after defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova (Russia) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:1) in just 57 minutes. For her, ranking in this phase of the US Open Championship is the first in the last five years, and now she faces a match with Peyton Stearns (USA), who eliminated Katie Boulter (UK) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3).
