Jessica Pegula advances to the quarterfinals of the US Open

The sixth-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA) advances to the quarterfinals of the US Open. The American tennis player won by 2-0 (6:4, 6:2) against the 18th-seeded Diana Shnaider (Russia) in 87 minutes at “Arthur Ashe Stadium”.

Jessica Pegula, 30, reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the seventh time overall and for the second time in New York. The American tennis player has 13 wins and just one loss since returning to the North American hard courts.

Diana Shnaider made two breaks in the first set, but was unable to counter Jessica Pegula‘s strong baseline play. In the second set, the American led 3:1 and 4:2 and had no problems ending the match at her first opportunity.

In the next round, Jessica Pegula will face the top-seeded and world’s number one Iga Swiatek (Poland), who decisively won her match versus Liudmila Samsonova (Russia) by 2-0 (6:4 6:1).

Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic) also continues to the quarterfinals. The Czech player, who is a finalist from Roland Garros 2023, eliminated the fifth-seeded Jasmine Paolini (Italy) after 2-0 (6:3, 6:3) in just 68 minutes.

The Czech tennis player broke the serve of her Italian opponent four times and ended the match on her first match point.
