Jessica Pegula advanced to the fourth round of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open

The 3rd-seeded American tennis player Jessica Pegula advanced to the fourth round of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open after defeating Anastasia Potapova (Russia) by 2-1 (3:6, 6:4, 7:5) in 2:19 hours.

Only one break in the first set gave the advantage to Anastasia Potapova, who earlier saved two break points. However, she succeeded to lose the set on her third attempt and took a lead.

Jessica Pegula started strongly in the second set, making an early break to lead by 3:0. Both players exchanged breaks in the middle of the set and Anastasia Potapova equalized, even having a hidden match point in the 9th game (break point before her serving game), but Jessica Pegula saved it and after that succeeded to break the serve of her Russian opponent to equalize the sets to 1-1.

The third set started with an early break for Anastasia Potapova, who had a chance to extend her lead in the third game but the American player saved the breakpoint. Jessica Pegula succeeded to return the break in the sixth game of the set and equalized the score. Again in the very last game, she achieved another break and this closes the set at 7:5 and qualified for the Round of 16 in the tournament.

In the next round, Jessica Pegula will face Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic), who defeated Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) by 2-1 (0:6, 6:0, 6:4).

The 17th-seeded Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) also advanced to the Round of 16 after eliminating the 11th-seeded Veronika Kudermetova (Russia) by 2-0 (6:1, 7:5) and will face the 7th-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece), who defeated Anhelina Kalinina (Ukraine) by 2-1 (3:6, 6:2, 6:4).

The 6th-seeded Cori Coco Gauff (USA) did not have many problems versus Linda Noskova (Czech Republic) and defeated her by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3) and in the next round will face Rebecca Peterson (Sweden), who defeated Jil Teichmann (Switzerland) by 2-1 (3:6, 6:3, 6:1).

Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) defeated Xinyu Wang (China) by 2-1 (6:2, 6:7, 6:2) and in the Round of 16 will face the 2nd seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus), who advanced ahead after walkover of Lesia Tsurenko (Ukraine)
