Jemma Reekie targets winning a medal at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow

Scottish middle-distance runner Jemma Reekie has set her sights on winning her first women’s medal at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow next year. The 25-year-old athlete, who finished fourth in the 800m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, hopes she will have better luck at her home championships.

Jemma Reekie said it “would be amazing” to start the year with a medal in March ahead of the Summer season, when she will try to improve on her ranking from Tokyo at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“I really want to come here next year and try to win a medal. It would be my first major women’s forum medal and that’s exactly what I’m aiming for”, said Jemma Reekie.

Jemma Reekie won gold medals in the 800m and 1,500m at the 2019 European U23 Athletics Championships. At age 19, she took the 1,500m title at the 2017 European U20 Championships, where she also finished fourth in the 3,000m. Reekie is the British record holder for the indoor mile. She won two national senior titles, and four titles at junior level
