Jelena Ostapenko qualified for the second round of the WTA 250 Rothesay Birmingham Classic

The second-seeded Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) advanced to the second round of the WTA 250 Rothesay Birmingham Classic in the UK. The Latvian player eliminated Linda Noskova (Czech Republic) after 2-1 (6:2, 5:7, 6:1) in 1:42 hours.

In the next round, Jelena Ostapenko will face the American tenis veteran and former world’s No 1 Venus Williams.

The 8th-seeded Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea also qualified for the second round of the tournament after winning her opening match versus her compatriot Ana Bogdan by 2-1 (6:4, 2:6, 6:3) in 2:08 hours. In the next round, she will face Magdalena Frech (Poland), who defeated Barbora Strycova (Czech Republic) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:1).

The British player Harriet Dart eliminated her compatriot Jodie Burrage after 2-1 (4:6, 6:2, 7:5) and in the second round will face Anhelina Kalinina (Ukraine), who defeated Alycia Parks (USA) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:4).

Lin Zhu (China) and Anastasia Potapova (Russia) also advanced to the second round after victories against Katie Boulter (UK) and Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine), respectively.
