Jelena Ostapenko defeated Sorana Cîrstea at the WTA 500 Adelaide International

The sixth-seeded Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) had a hard time against Sorana Cîrstea (Romania) in the Round of 32 at the WTA 500 Adelaide International, but eventually prevailed by 2-1 (2:6, 6:4, 6:4). “I think I fell asleep in the first set. I’m not an early riser, I need time to get into the match. When I calmed down, I started playing better”, said Jelena Ostapenko after the match.

Two days after helping Germany win the United Cup final, Laura Siegemund needed almost three hours to overcome Liudmila Samsonova (Russia) by 2-1 (6:7, 6:4, 6:4), overcoming a deficit in the second and third sets.
