Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok won the US Open women’s doubles title

Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) and Lyudmyla Kichenok (Ukraine) won the US Open tennis women’s doubles title. Seventh-seeded Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok, finalists at the Australian Open earlier this year, defeated Kristina Mladenovic (France) and Zhang Shuai (China) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3) in the final. The match lasted an hour and 30 minutes.

The Latvian-Ukrainian pair led by 3:0 in the first set, but Kristina Mladenovic and Zhang Shuai equalized at 4:4 before Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok ended the set with another break for 6:4.

In the second set, Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok overcame a 1:3 deficit with a series of five consecutive games that ensured their success at 6:3.

For both Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok, the title is the first Grand Slam in women’s doubles, but the second overall.

Jelena Ostapenko is the 2017 Roland Garros singles champion, while Lyudmyla Kichenok holds the Wimbledon mixed doubles title from 2023.

Kristina Mladenovic, on the other hand, has six Grand Slam women’s doubles titles in her career, but not in New York, while Zhang Shuai triumphed in the United States in 2021.
