Japan’s Senna Irie brought her country’s first Olympic gold in boxing

Japan’s boxer Sena Irie presented a surprise and won the Olympic title in the women’s 57kg category at the Tokyo Games.

Sena Irie delighted the local audience, as in the final she defeated the world champion Nesthy Petecio from the Philippines with 5:0 judges’ votes.

The 20-year-old Japanese totally dominated the ring and brought her country’s first Olympic gold in boxing in history.

Nesthy Petecio remained with the silver, and the bronze medals in the category are for the Italian Irma Testa and the British Karriss Artingstall.

1. Sena Irie (Japan)
2. Nesthy Petecio (Philippines)
3. Irma Testa (Italy) and Karriss Artingstall (Great Britain)
