Jamaica’s women’s 4x100m relay won the Tokyo Olympic title

Jamaica’s women’s 4x100m relay won the Tokyo Olympic title. The Jamaican relay team of Briana Williams, Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Shericka Jackson finished with a time of 41.02 seconds. They overtook the US team, which were Olympic champions in London in 2012 and in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. The time of the Americans is 41.45 seconds.

The third was the team of Great Britain with 41.88, last less than 42 seconds in the final. They were followed by Switzerland in 4th place, Germany in 5th, China and France, and the Dutch team failed to finish.

Elaine Thompson-Herah adds the Olympic title to the 200m and 100m, which means her third gold medal at this Olympics. Thus, their leader consolidated the dominance imposed by Usain Bolt. Bolt was the leader in the men’s relay from 2008 to 2016, and now women have continued the tradition.

Elaine Thompson-Herah became only the fifth woman in athletics to record a gold medal triple in the three sprint distances at the Olympics. And the first since 2012, when this achievement was owned by Allyson Felix.

The Americans started well, but then had to surrender to the aspirations of the Jamaican team, which won with a new national record. Dina Asher-Smith returned to the track to lead the British team to the bronze medal.
